May we all become part of "a Community in Formation"
By God's mercy and grace, all of us, within and without organized religion, are drawn by love toward the realization of the universal society in which all are membered, yet fall short of its realization. We are committed toward working toward "Thy Kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven." I know, you recognize the words, they are from the prayer that our Lord has taught us.
To this end, St. Martin's participates in the following actions, reflective of our desire to be "called ones alongside, together" with all. The New Testament word for this is "sumparakaleo," and its linked with Paraklete, the name for the Holy Spirit emplanted deep within our hearts.

It is our aim to pursue, by God's grace and the enabling power of the Holy Spirit, an alongside working relationship with our neighbors, and the caring agencies that are part of our South Omaha.
We are a community in formation. We begin from where we are, and as we are. God has always found that sufficient as a base from which to work.
At the heart of our capacity to be alongside is the constant centering in common prayer and adoration of our Lord, that we may be nurtured as a people for service. Thus it is, that we gather together, Sunday after Sunday, at 9 am, around the Table of Word and Sacrament, followed by the "Second Table." (cf. below.)
Lectors:
Church members serve as a lectors. They serve the church by reading the Old Testament lesson, leading the Psalm and reading the Epistle at services.
Acolytes:
This program is open to all youth from third grade to those aged 99. Training is held when there are volunteers. Acolytes assist the clergy at the alter during worship services. At St. Martin's children can begin to serve as acolytes at the age of seven. Helping as an acolyte is open to all persons in the parish from ages seven and up. Training is required.
Altar Care:
If you are interested in helping out, call Beth Mincer, or inform the church office. You need not have experience, as you will be trained after you volunteer.
The Second Table (Coffee Hour):
One of the ways in which hospitality is demonstrated in the Epicopal Church and at St. Martin's is in the coffee hour, held after worship services. We call this time "Our Second Table." It is our time to come together informally to share stories and be with one another in the happenings of our life together. Those who help, ensure that coffee, juice, and snacks are available. Cleanup of the coffee area and the kitchen afterwards is also part of this ministry. Visit with Cathie Hughes if you would like to help.
