Vestry Minutes
February 14, 2010
The meeting was called to order at 10:15 am by Sr. Warden Deb Maruca.
Fr. Phil opened with prayer.
Attendees: Debbie Maruca, Ann Chambers, Mary Rosser, Marcia Ghali, Cathie Hughes, Beth Mincer, Fr. Phil Chapman,
Absent: Mike Roe, Kenley Sturdivant Wilson
Guests: Kim Roberts, Diana Chapman
Minutes: The minutes of the December, 2009 meeting were approved.
Clerk: Ann nominated Joyce Hooyboer to serve as clerk of the vestry. Cathie seconded. Motion carried. In Joyce’s absence, Kim volunteered to take minutes.
Treasurer’s Report: $34,040 at the end of 2009: $33,008 at the end of January, 2010
Snow removal: Denny Miller at Good Shepherd paid for the snow removal from the parking lot. Fr. Phil will write a thank you card.
February 7th-the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Women gave $1000 in unrestricted funds to St Martin’s. A thank you card was sent around the table for signatures.
Audit: Beth will contact someone to do the audit. It was noted that a financial audit statement is helpful when seeking grants.
Bank Change: Beth is looking into pros and cons of changing banks and will report later.
Faith Asking: St Martin’s has paid the diocese it’s Faith Asking for the year.
An additional pledge has been made to St Martin’s.
Priest in Charge Report: Fr. Phil reported on his meeting with the Commission on Ministry. Total Ministry has diminished and the Presbyters’ Retreat discussed new formation sets. The Presiding Bishop will visit in March. Phil asked the vestry if they want her to visit St Martins. Cathie moved, Marcia seconded the motion that she visit. Motion carried. Fr. Phil has been asked to start the Fresh Start program, which assists priests in transition. Fr. Ernesto Medina has offered to hold a preaching class for anyone interested. Fr. Phil has offered to hold a Eucharistic Ministry class.
Sr Warden’s Report: Debbie reported that she and Frank Maruca have purchased a door bell for the church. Debbie also reported that Cox charges $15.95/month for phone service, while Qwest charges $44.
Jr. Warden’s Report: No report. The Sr. Warden thanked Cathie and family for snow removal on the sidewalks and steps.
Old Business:
Passing the Peace: Settled
Parochial Report: Fr. Phil and Beth Mincer will complete.
New Business: Installation of Vestry: Kim will send the service notes to the vestry
Building Usage: The board voted unanimously to allow a couple from outside the church to use St Martin’s for their wedding. Fr. Phil and Kim will write a policy concerning use of the building.
Other:
Clean-up Day: St Martin’s will hold a parish wide clean up day on March 21st. The bulletin will carry an announcement and remind people to wear “grubbies” and bring cleaning supplies.
Mary requested that the clergy project their voices better during the service, as we do not have a sound system and it can be difficult to hear.
Ann asked that we observe the week long Prayers for Aids on March 7th or 14th. She will send the prayers to Kim for the bulletin.
Kim will start an “In Gratitude” segment in the bulletin.
Upcoming Events include: Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, Ash Wednesday, Lenten Program with Soup Potluck.
